Syncopation, vocal jazz quartet
I have been a member of Syncopation since 2006. We have a ball. Check them out. The Boston Globe calls Syncopation the “Manhattan Transfer of the 21st Century,” and it is easy to see why. Like that legendary vocal group, Syncopation performs jazz and pop music that is both timeless and up-to-the-minute. These four young singer/musicians have performed across the U.S. at the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, the Tri-C Vocal Jazz Festival, the Boston Globe Jazz Festival, the Meihou Music Festival in Japan, and the 2004 and 2006 International Association for Jazz Education Conferences in New York City. The group also regularly plays jazz clubs in New England like Scullers, Ryles, the Hi-Hat, the Sahara Club, and the Press Room. Syncopation includes swing, bebop, latin, and pop music influences. The group usually performs with a band, but their a cappella performance earned them first place at the 2008 Boston Harmony Sweepstakes. Each singer is a horn player, resulting in tight section work and exciting solos.

Vocalogy, jazz vocal quintet
I am proud to be a founding member of this West-coast-based vocal group. VOCALOGY is a vocal jazz quintet which brings an exciting and distinctive sound to the world of vocal music. Vocalogy has delighted audiences internationally in festivals, concerts, clinics and clubs since the groups formation in 1998. Christine Guter (Helferich) is the group's dynamic lead singer; tenors David Thorne Scott and John Knutson, baritone Gerhard Guter, and bass Chris Morey provide rock-solid harmonies and take outstanding solo features. The group utilizes its range of five-and-a-half octaves to execute intricate and vocally demanding material in a way that seems effortless. They thrill audiences with their improvised solos, tight ensemble work, and dazzling harmonies. Vocalogy arose from an artist-in-residency program under Grammy-Award nominee Phil Mattson. Now self-directed, Vocalogy performs a collection of their own innovative arrangements.
Cut Circle
I am honored and delighted to sing with Cut Circle. Cut Circle is a vocal octet specializing in renaissance music. Formed in Boston by Jesse Rodin in 2003 to explore aspects of his research on Josquin des Prez and his contemporaries, the ensemble has been praised for its “spirited,” “scholarly,” and “masterful” performances by the New York Times and the Williamstown Advocate Weekly, and has been called “the most promising group I have heard in a long time” by Donald Greig of the Tallis Scholars/Orlando Consort. Cut Circle has presented programs throughout the northeastern United States, and recently recorded an album, entitled Roman Warriors: L’homme armé Masses by Marbrianus de Orto and Josquin des Prez, that is currently in the final stages of production. Cut Circle’s dynamic, assertive performances are rooted in the notion that 15th- and 16th-century music is not only extremely beautiful, but highly varied and, at times, utterly thrilling.
