CHORAL MASTER: THE MUSIC OF JOHANNES OCKEGHEM
Memorial Church, Stanford University, 450 Serra Mall, Bldg. 500, Stanford Lively Arts, Stanford, CA
Deriving its name from 15th-century music notation, Cut Circle is an esteemed vocal octet specializing in Renaissance music. Founded and led by the Stanford Music faculty’s own Jesse Rodin, the ensemble has been called “the most promising group I have heard in a long time” by no less an authority than Donald Greig of the Tallis Scholars and the Orlando Consort. In this performance, Cut Circle explores the work of 15th-century Franco-Flemish master Johannes Ockeghem, a composer equally renowned in his day for technical brilliance and extraordinary expressiveness.
